I am organising and running a hobbies convention called BattleCry in Auckland. It's a 2 day event with tournaments and demonstrations and trade stands. The hobbies I'm targeting are things like board games, strategy card games, and games using miniatures like wargaming. Activities that are not your usual sports or standard hobbies. I also want to encourage activities that encourage creative thinking like roleplaying and costumed live action theatre events. I would also like to support New Zealand artists and game designers who work in these hobby areas.
This event started off as a casual event, it has grown quickly and moved to a large community venue. It could become an awesome NZ national event for people who participate in these hobbies and for families wanting to experience new and exciting hobbies together.
I'm looking for advise and financial support to help structure, run and promote this event so that it becomes a self-sufficient National New Zealand event. I also want to keep it free entry for spectators so more families and young people can come along and check out some interesting new hobbies and try something new. Encouraging people to give new things a go is a big part of this event, helping them use their creative skills in new and fun ways.
